History

If you can work around the typos, this page contains some good history into the doll's origin. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.motherearthnews.com/menarch/archive/issues/064/064_images/064-040-02.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.motherearthnews.com/library/1980_July_August/Make_Applehead_Dolls&h=170&w=300&sz=26&tbnid=kGkQIQKn_UV8qM:&tbnh=62&tbnw=111&hl=en&start=16&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dapple%2Bhead%2Bdolls%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG

They look much better once I add the eyes and glasses and sometimes teeth. Posted by Picasa

This is what they look like a few days after drying them in a barely warm oven. The apples were large to begin with. Posted by Picasa

Body

This page tells how to use a soda bottle for the doll's body. I know you can also use dish soap bottles. http://www.ehow.com/how_3900_make-apple-head.html

Clothing

This page has directions for making the body and clothing: http://www.make-stuff.com/projects/apple_dolls.html

Three new heads in the oven.

I had to toss out all the heads I'd already made when I moved. So I just carved 3 new heads and stuck them on low in the oven.
